It's
about 10:30 or so here, and we've been having quite an adventurous
night. ^-^ I decided to go ahead and hang some Christmasy lights.
Man, did the kitties go bonkers! I had TWO cats scampering all
around the house, rolling up rugs, pouncing on light strings, and
leaping and dashing about. Oi. Josie was just as bad as Finneas!
^-^ Between the two of them cavorting it's amazing we didn't all
three go crashing down at some point. LOL! It was pretty
hilarious.

Season's
greetings, my friend! Yes, Christmas is coming, and I'm always a
happy camper at this time of year. I rede you beware. LOL! It's a
fine frosty December morning here. There's a cold grey sky and
light wisps of snow fluttering about on the wind, a perfect day to
revel in the holiday spirit. I have my hot cup of coffee and the
fireplace lit, two cats snoozing on the bed behind me, and some
lovely Christmas music from Days Of Yore to help spin the holiday
spell. A perfect Saturday morning. The only thing we're missing
here is you. Read

I'll Know That Fall Is
Here
Happy October to you! Wow, that got here fast. Last time I looked
it was September, or so I thought. I've been keeping pretty busy I
guess. It's been a fast past month, but today is nice and slow, and
so it feels like a great day to sit down and chat with everybody.
I've got a fresh cup of coffee (how about you?) so let's catch you
up with the goings on around here. Where to start? Well, Finneas is
a big part of the whirlwind these days, so he's as good a place as
any.

Stories For A

Okay,
my friend, I told you I had an apple pie story for
you.
Well, when I was 17 and a junior in high school my Dad sold the
house my sister and I had grown up in. She was away to college, and
Dad and I moved out into a little cracker box of a house in the
country that we rented. We really liked that little country house.
But Dad knew that once I graduated he was going to leave our
hometown for good because it was just too small a place for him to
put his life back together after all that the family had been
through. Read

The Christening
Okay,
after nearly five days of get used to time with each other and much
debate amongst the three of us, we have finally decided on an
actual name for the Small Black Menace (though Josie I have a
feeling will always think of him as SBM!)

Some
place in a galaxy far, far away....That's kind of what it feels
like here at home these days. For any of you out there who have or
have had cats, you probably know what a challenge it can be to
introduce a new cat into a cat home. Well, this past Sunday I came
home with a wee kitten, a little street urchin who was in desperate
need of a home.

Years
ago, about 25 years ago actually, when I lived in Texas I stumbled
across what proved to be one of the largest Renaissance festivals
in the country, Scarborough Faire near Waxahachie, TX. From the
moment I first walked through the towering gates I was hooked, and
Scarborough Faire became a favourite haunt of mine every late
spring that I lived in Texas. Read

Well
hello, hello! Looks like it's been awhile since I've been on here
writing. The months have been getting away from me. July is here,
and I'd better get busy paying attention to things or my summer is
going to be long gone before I even get a chance to cut loose and
have a little fun. LOL! Well, that's not completely true. I have
been having some fun already, just not of the traditional summer
time variety.

I'm
heading to Hawaii tomorrow for a week long trip to enjoy the
sunshine and catch up with two of my most favorite people in the
world, Martin & Cheryl. I haven't seen them now for a couple of
years, and that is far too long. We'll be living it up at one of
the Nintendo houses in Kona. "Nintendo house" you say? "Yes," I
say. Let me explain.

I moved into the new Little Delving hobbit hole around the end of
January of this year, but I actually bought the place way back in
October of last year. I had a lot of things to wrap up in Chicago,
and so the whole transition down south took me a handful of months.
It made for a very interesting holiday season, let me tell you. But
in the end with a little luck and a little help from family and a
neighbor it all worked out pretty well.

Remember
my good friend Leah? She's the composer who has been spending the
past several years writing musicals with her colleague Sean. I
really love Leah's music, and she and Sean (lyricist) just seem to
work very well together. Their second show is a great example. Sean
wanted to write something as a tribute to his best friend Jack,
Jack The Dog, who put in a lot of time at rehearsals over the years
for many different shows in many different cities. The result
was
A Dog's Life, a
very sweet show that came straight from the heart...

On The Road
This
coming fall I will be attending a birthday party with a number of
very jolly folk all of whom love the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The
party itself is sure to be a wonderful experience, and I'm really
looking forward to it. But I'm also looking forward to visiting the
venue, Shaker Village in Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. It's a lovingly
restored authentic Shaker settlement, and it serves today as a
living museum, a piece of American history that you can walk into,
experience, and become a part of. It looks wonderful. And it's
haunted. Seriously.

This
is good for a chuckle. I've been messing around some here now after
a long hiatus, and so for grins I did some googling just to see if
Little Delving even registered out there in Cyber Land anymore, and
dang if I didn't learn something new about myself. Turns out, I
have a music career. Cool.

Sometimes
a fella just gets lucky. Plain and simple. Jeremiah Johnson has
been a favorite film of mine for nearly as long as I can remember
liking films. It came out in 1972 when I was 11 years old going on
12. At the time it was like no other movie I had seen or heard of.
There was very little dialogue, and what little there was sounded
stiff and oddly formal, it was a formalized style of speaking that
was new to my young ears, and yet with those very few words to
underscore the adventures and experiences told of in the tale, the
movie captured my heart and it fired my imagination. In many ways
it helped to shape my life for years to come. It was a call to the
road, a call to Adventure, a call to a place where a fella, if he
could learn to watch his top knot and keep his eye on the skyline,
might be able to start over if he needed to, make a go of it in a
new life. It was powerful stuff.

Okay,
Gangaroos, I've been amusing myself lately making a few little

fun. They let you upload video clips and create your own "channel".
So, guys & gals, forget about the WB 'cause here comes

A
haunting musical theme from a haunting film,
The Dresser,
starring Tom Courtney and Albert Finney. It's King Lear, a tale of
unrequited love, familiar stories coming to an unhappy end, a
tragedy within a tragedy within a tragedy. I remember seeing this
movie in a theater in Austin, TX when it first came out. I walked
outside when it was over and was amazed to see the sun still
shining in the sky. It is a powerful film, and James Horner's music
stayed with me for days afterwards. His score for the film
Glory I
think is my favorite complete work of his, but this music is
something else all together.

'Bug-erceptor'

It's hard to say how
much intercepting the Blount County Sheriff's Office's 1973
Volkswagen Beetle cruiser is capable of doing, but it's got the
emblem, anyway. It says "Police Interceptor," but in truth the
intimidation quotient of veteran law enforcer Archie Garner's
cruiser isn't very high. It has all the right markings, decals and
required equipment, but it just doesn't look like the rest of the
Blount County Sheriff's Office fleet. Read

Wow.
Wow. Wow! What a great race this year! I love The Iditarod. It's
such a great combination of adventure and fortune, heart and
desire, craft and cunning. And it's the ultimate team sport! The
mushers and their dogs are what it's all about, and this is one
race where simply finishing is truly an achievement. But
winning...and in such epic style. Wow.

The
big news of the current new year is that I am no longer living in
Chicago. I have said my goodbyes to The Windy City and the condo
lifestyle and have migrated south to the bottom bit of rural
Indiana very near the Ohio River,
just
across the water from Louisville, Kentucky. The proverbial stone's
throw. I've swapped Chicago Land for "Kentuckiana" as they call it
down here. Kentuckiana has a more cheerful and optimistic ring to
it than does Indiucky. I'm sure the vote wasn't even close on that
one.
