A Promise Kept

Day To DayWell, it's been a few weeks now since I got back from my Scotland/Holland trip, and I'm finally getting around to writing a bit about it. The problem is where to begin? It was such a great holiday! I was gone from home for 25 days, and together V and I had 22 of those days to run around together and have all sorts of Adventure. Best holiday ever! But there's so much to tell of that one post will not even come close to covering it all. So I'll try to do maybe 3-4 posts over the next few weeks to try to fit it all in. I won't make any promises of course, but I'll give it a shot!
How about we start at the beginning with the promise? It was a little less than two and half years ago when V and I were really beginning to spend a lot of time talking online. (For those of you new to the V & Me story you can catch up a little here and here.) It was sometime in the fall of 2008 and V was still some 2 years away from finishing her doctorate at veterinary school when we
started joking around about how much fun we could have on a celebratory road trip together once she was done. We had already spent a lot of time talking about Scotland so picking our desitination was easy! And that was it. We promised each other that if we were still friends by the time she graduated vet school we would meet for the first time for a 3 week drive together around the Scottish Highlands to mark her finishing 6 years of veterinary school and becoming a doctor! It was something for us to joke about with each other, and joke we did for quite a few months. The thing is though, by the next summer, a few months after we had started having weekly telephone conversations (a routine that began when I called her on her 23rd birthday. We talked for some 2 hours that night, and her mother came upstairs twice to check on her to see if everything was 'Okay', LOL! V was NOT known for talking on the phone much in those days) well, by the end of that summer V and I were both pretty sure we didn't want to wait another year and a half to have our first face to face. Graduation and Scotland seemed a very long ways away! So that holiday season we spent a week together in London (best holiday ever!) and from that point on we really started thinking seriously about making our long distance friendship into something much more. And that's exactly what we've done over this past year.
So fulfilling the promise and traveling together in Scotland turned into something very special for us. We had 3 weeks of laughing, and talking, and reminiscing about all the things that had come to pass in the two and a half years since V first found me on YouTube. Best holiday ever! And one of the coolest things about the trip was that it was actually a scouting trip for us, a chance for V to see the Highlands first hand so she could decide if it was somewhere she would like to live someday together with me and the whole kitty pirate crew. And she loved it! So later this year I'm planning to move over seas to join her in The Netherlands, and we're hoping that within 2-3 years we'll all be relocating together to somewhere/anywhere in Scotland. Adventure!
So that's the story about the promise and why this trip to Scotland and Holland was so special for us. I'll try to write more soon and fill you in on some of the actual happenings of the trip, but for now I'll leave you with a slide show of just some of the photos V managed to take along the way. I rede you beware though, come prepared if you plan to sit through the whole thing, it's about 20 minutes long! But oh, the pictures, I think you will find them worth the time.
Okay, time to get busy around here, back to the daily duties. I'll write again soon.
Cheers,
JB
